Over the past weeks, we’ve received an increasing number of questions about Sargassum seaweed in the Caribbean. Many travelers are understandably concerned about beach conditions and whether their vacation could be affected. We’d like to provide a short and transparent update.
The good news first:No Sargassum has currently been observed in Bocas del Toro. The water around the islands remains clear, calm, and fully enjoyable. 🌴🌊
Why Bocas del Toro is often not affected
Unlike many exposed Caribbean coastlines, Bocas del Toro is located within a protected island archipelago. Ocean currents in the Caribbean Sea typically push large Sargassum fields toward open eastern-facing shores.
Bocas del Toro benefits from:
protected bays
surrounding islands
shifting local currents
calm lagoon-like waters
These natural conditions often prevent larger amounts of Sargassum from reaching the area.
Current on-site observations
We are on the water daily — boating, snorkeling, and visiting beaches aroundIsla Solarte,Isla Colón and nearby islands.
At the moment, the water is:
clear
calm
free of Sargassum
ideal for swimming and snorkeling
If the situation changes, we will of course provide transparent and timely updates.
Our conclusion
Bocas del Toro currently remains one of the less affected areas in the Caribbean.Guests can continue to enjoy crystal-clear water, beautiful sunsets, and untouched nature. ☀️
